Socioscapes 2026: Bridging Education, Society, and Creativity through Experiential Learning
Socioscapes 2026, organized by the Department of Sociology at Mahatma Gandhi Central University, stood as a compelling demonstration of how the principles of the National Education Policy can be translated into meaningful educational practice. The event was graced by Shri Radha Mohan Singh (Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament, East Champaran), whose visit underscored the significance of innovation, skill development, and youth participation in nation-building. The successful execution of the programme reflected the visionary leadership of Prof. Sanjay Srivastava (Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Central University), who has consistently promoted interdisciplinary learning and student engagement beyond the classroom.
The event was further strengthened by the guidance of Prof. Sujit Chaudhary (Head, Department of Sociology), whose efforts were instrumental in conceptualizing a platform that connected education with society, culture, and creativity, and by Prof. Prasun Dutt Singh (Campus Director), who emphasized the importance of digital awareness and responsible citizenship in contemporary times. A major highlight was the Cyber Awareness Workshop conducted by DSP Abhinav Parashar (Deputy Superintendent of Police) and probationary DSP officers, which equipped students with essential knowledge regarding online safety and cyber fraud prevention.
The academic and creative dimensions of the event were enriched by Ms. Shefalika Mishra (Public Relations Officer, Mahatma Gandhi Central University and TISS alumna), whose documentary and film analysis workshop encouraged critical social reflection, and Dr. Ajit Kumar (TGT, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Piprakothi), who conducted an engaging painting workshop. Valuable contributions from Pt. Amal Jha, Mr. Kaushik Jha, and Dr. Priya brought the richness of Mithila’s cultural and intellectual traditions to the programme. Student-led exhibitions on migration, water conservation, beauty standards, and economic processes, along with the vibrant Food Culture Zone and cultural performances by participating schools, transformed the campus into a dynamic space of learning and expression. The artistic achievements of Mr. Prashant (Student Artist), particularly his lead-pencil caricatures, further showcased the creative potential of the university’s students.
Ultimately, Socioscapes 2026 demonstrated that higher education is most impactful when it fosters critical thinking, creativity, social awareness, and community engagement, thereby transforming learning into a holistic and socially meaningful experience.
